Setting up a server is not very easy


In the broad understanding of server , it denotes a machine used for storage and distribution of data or various computing resources through a network for a number of users connected to that particular system . On the other hand, it can be said that a server is used for higher capacity data storage and distribution to one or more users connected to a network.

There are a number of servers in use for various purposes such as by individuals and companies engaged in networking or offering resources and connections to their resources, banking and other financial institutions, web hosting services servers, FTP servers, application servers, email servers, collaboration servers, Telnet servers, virtual servers, name servers, ecommerce enabled servers, etc. are some of them. Setting up of a server to be done based on the requirement. If you want to host a database such as MySQL, then you need a high capacity server. Most of the servers are used in dedicated environment, means for a particular group of people, a particular company or only for serving the data and not used for other purposes. There are many latest technology servers available in market from different manufactures such as Microsoft, Sun Technologies, HP, Lenovo, etc. You have to decide the server on the basis of the application required to run in it. There are some features making a system suitable to be used in server environment such as its ability to easily update software and hardware without necessitating restarting it as well as reconfigure. Critical data back up on regular basis, data transfer between different volumes of devices, advanced and more flexible networking enabled system, automation capabilities such as services in Windows and daemons (programs running in the background) in UNIX and more importantly the security features with latest user, resources, data and memory protection features, etc. are some of the critical requirements
